what you're saying is right nfx

when i started rapping i always said to me to be real

because then you rap about real things and real problems

not an invented background story or things you never would do

i have a lot enemys in rap game and they always rap about beating me up

or even killing me!!!

but when they see me or when i catch them alone, then they are scared chicks

so i think its better to be yourself and not to build an image of what you're not

because there is always someone who knows your true identity

What i think is amazing, is that this one blog out of the 5 is the most discussed one, the others barely get a look, but every1 has an opinion on this one.
i'd also like to relate every1 to the KRS-1 lecture at temple university (http://www.warbeats.com/Forums/tabid/59/view/topic/postid/40363/forumid/35/tpage/1/Default.aspx), he explains all about the psychy of hip-hop and the beginning of hip-hop
and strangely hip-hop is actually about being some1 your not, "detaching yourself from a history you didnt create" (not sure if thats his exact words). and it may seem like im disagreein with NFX, but im not.
hip-hop is an expression, "I Am", expressin who you truly are, regardless of where your from or your background. with hip-hop you ignore that, you ignore stereotypes, and you be who you beleive you are.
i really recommend watching the KRS1 lecture, the theory of unknowing is mind blowing

Hip hop aint dead but it aint what it used to be either.

"detaching yourself from a history you didn't create" might also be expressed as "you have the power to manifest your own destiny"

You can be anything you want to be. And you should be what you want to be. The tough part is being able to get past what you think is expected of you and listening to that voice inside. because until you can follow that true voice you can not truly manifest whats in your heart.

Consider the scenario where 6 people gang up on an individual and beat them so bad the person dies. Individuually you could argue that of those 6, they all know killing is wrong and would not have gone so far if not in a group.

I've been situations with my boys where I did stuff I knew was wrong because I didn't want to punk out.

I see that same image being lived out daily by kids in the neighborhood. It's hard for young folks NOT to look up to an image they think is appealing and start leaning in that direction. If it's a negative image, God help them. Hip hop is littered with negative images IMO, but I'm also smart enough to know better.

Since I was a teen, I had this image of the man I wanted to become. That guy smoked weed, treated women as objects for physical needs only, worked as little as possible, saw nothing wrong in "minor crimes" etc... Thats what i saw as cool. And I almost got there.

But I'm also a thinker and when I did things and honestly thought about it, I knew I was doing wrong. At some point I decided it was wrong for me be something in my outer self that was not the same as my inner self.

It's still a struggle for me to be 100% the "real" me. I'm only human after all, but I noticed that the more I move in that direction the more positive things happen around me. And I realized that once you listen and follow that inner voice - some might even say God's voice - you will find things come easier and your life will be happier.

this "True - Fake" thing is going man.... NFX is right... i thin that in this world we have too much grown people that are thinkin like kids... when we talk about music... errbody is gangsta husla.. killa drug dilla... lol and its funny...... but lets face it... if a rapper is rich and rap about his money... people say that he is have nothing else to rap for... if he says his a gangsta... the people say he is not... thats.... i dont understand this whole thing myself... but im thinkin the good music is good... so i like the new artists and i really dont care if they are gangsters or no... the beats are good the music makes you move... so its aiight... i also like for example Immortal Technique and Jedi Mind Tricks... hard lyrics... inspired from the real life...... im tryin to say that the music these days is just to entertain you, not to make you feel or see somthink... thats what i think about tha rap music today... in real life... yeah if you are not true you practicly aint nobody... you ain the person you are coping and you aint yourself... so you aint ish... aint that right? but about tha music i really think that we just have to forget about that real-fake thing... the only thing that i hate about rap today is that some rappers and some producers are making music not they like it and feel it but how the radio and TV likes it... as DMX says "Stop Been Greedy" ....what i meen is... look at timbaland... i love his style and his music... but not today... in the past was different.. it was good... and now just aint nothning on my opinion...

Im talkin a lots of crap until i get to the point but i hope you all will understand what im tryin to say...

and one more think... as errbody hear says... aint nothin more important in real life than just to be yourself!!!

(Just a joke) Man I wear baggy clothes (I'm gangsta) In fact when I was 3 I had baggy diapers!!! (its just a joke people)

anyway now being serious here...

It just makes me sad to see kids and adults trying so hard to be something that they are not. and its sadder to see them trying so hard to imitate fake rappers and other fake people.
