Lately there seems to be a new trend happenin that rappers are trying to associate themselves with heavy metal...most of the times with litte result, and it pisses me off.

Now of course you all know I love my rap, but I still love metal and will defend it to the death.

Found this one group on youtube called 'Ghetto Heavy Metal' which sounded like your basic rap group with no heavy metal what-so-ever......so why the 'heavy metal' part added in the name?

Jedi Mind Tricks have a track called 'Heavy Metal Kings'. The song doesnt even have distorted guitars in the beat or anything, so why brag that they are 'Heavy Metal Kings'?

Also found another song on youtube called 'Spit Heavy Metal'.....which they are funking doin in the song, so why call it 'spit heavy metal'?

The only dude that can actually be worth of doin rap and metal in the one is, no not Mike Shinoda (although he is of course and eligible candidate), Necro.

This dude fuses his ish with REAL funking metal. Not the commercial ish, the hardcore gritty punch-you-in-the-face-and-funk-your-sister type ish!

Not only that but hes worked with alot of Heavy Metals kings, Jedi Mind Tricks could learn somethin from him.

Im talking about Kerry King from Slayer, Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed, Shawn Crahan from Slipknot and Scott Ian from Anthranx (who were the first metal band to actually fuse metal with rap with Public Enemy).

So every other rapper who thinks theyre funking 'heavy metal', shut the funk up unless your gonna back it the funk up and get schooled by Necro!

But yeah I dont mean to offend anyone on here or anything, just dont like to see motherfunkers pretending to be metal.

maybe the " heavy metal" they are reffering to is a new slang term to describe something, kinda like "swag" means personality...... just a thought

heavy metal = gold, lead, platinum, mercury, etc...

This is most likely what people are referring to with the term in hip hop.

i.e. Heavy metal as in lead in bullets.

Also it could be used as a reference to signify a harder brand of something. Like in your example.. Ghetto heavy metal, I'm thinking it was more a reference in lines of "this is our heavy metal".

Have you listened to the JMT track? They, and the other rappers, are refering to guns.

Ill Bill's Verse:

"BLAST the black metal at you like Danny Lilker"

ALSO, the term is hardly new, M.O.P. said,

"I used to pack sling shots, but now I`m packin heavy metal"

Back in '92.

I feel you Vito, but I feel these people too. Still, the term "heavy metal" is kinda tricky.

Only successful rap-rock artists so far have been Limp Bizkit and Rage Against The Machine.

And, damn, they're good.

It has to be done tastefully and have it's limits, Travis Barker making rap tunes into rock songs just isn't the future.

Especially now that he was in a plane crash..

What i am liking right now is Flobots, who have a mellow rock sound with good rap lyrics. They're not your typical ghetto boy kind of artists, their songs have minimal explicit language and most of the topics is rebellion or freedom, but i really like their style. Very different.
