I usually do a 4 bar intro followed by a 16 bar verse,8 bar hook,16 bar verse,8 bar hook,16 bar verse, and an extended 16 bar hook.Altho sometimes I split it between the two. Most songs follow a basic formula I agree but all in all it really depends what u wanna do.Currently I've done somewhere around 50 or so beats.I'm on my 2nd album but making my own beats this time around.I say do what sounds good jus don't make my mistake of deleting things out of frustration. It's easier to bounce between a couple different beats than it is pulling your hair out over one.

when you say 16 bars... are you goin off of fruity loops bars? cuz those i count like half. i pretty much do the same exact pattern as you, small intro then bam hit you in the face with some ill as drums to let the beat drop.

pretty much all the time, i use just a single melody for the intro, then let the beat drop with drums. in the beginning i used to have the drums playin and then the melody come in but i reversed that and it sounds so much better that way.

i agree on you with having atleast 2 or 3 projects currently on the top of your list to work off of. i switch between em and work on which ever has a feeling im diggin more at the moment.

got any tracks i can listen to? just post it on this thread.

I don't kno how to post beats on threads but I did put a couple in the beat feedback section.I'm gonna upload another tonight....please note that these are not exactly recent.I've been watchin and learning on here lately...I do have one beat that I'am currently working on that should be done soon.I'm just trying alot of new things so it's taking some time.Chords and melodies are my weakness but I'm starting to get the hint the more I'm on here.So yea go look up my ish in the feedback secion...u should find something.

i know a guy that makes beats that has no idea about anything. He makes them at like 160bpm to 220bpm or whatever, and then just puts everything in half as much. I can't convince him of why he should switch. he has no idea what a bar really is or anything to do with pitch or anything technical, just puts notes in the step sequencer. Suprisingly he makes some decent sounding beats

Makin' your beats @ 160 BPM is also possible. I do it too sometimes. Timbaland makes the majority of his beats @ "Double speed". This way it's easier to make more complicated drum loops in your step sequencer. It doesn't really matter what u do as long as u still know the formula and count the bars while your working.

Or you can just use the piano roll

That is also possible, but that would require 'chopping' to get those 16th notes n'stuff.. If you double your speed you don't need to process your drums using the piano roll. You can get those 16th notes in your step sequencer without using the 'chop' function.. .

i do 4 bar intro , 8 bar chorus, which could be 4 bars repeated twice btw. then come in with a 16 bar verse, chorus, verse, chorus on a small normal song. 2 verses 3 choruses. you could do 3 verses but however you do it run your chorus after each verse. I also like to get a buildup on the intro, like bring in the bass th first to bars then maybe a shaker or hi hat on the next 2 and wait and bring in my snare or clap when the intro is over. sounds dope i lik eit

heres some ish may help i used this on a textee website to try n teach song format counting time an bars and they deleted my thread cuz texting websites are people who will never make a beat and never see a mic.

every line is a bar.
remember:
& 1 & 2 / & 3 & 4

(CHORUS)
Imma slacker, /never did I have a lot of dough 1
Imma slacker, /smoking pot and watchin' videos 2
Imma slacker, /go whichever way the wind blows 3
Those just tuning in / I'm just letting' ya know 4
That Imma slacker, /every time I take a look around 5
Imma slacker, /stuck upon my face is a frown 6
I don't do enough,/ I just fool around 7
Ya'll can go to hell, /how does that sound (8)

(2nd Verse)
Now you can tell by my everyday fits /I ain't rich
I sneak with a piece /when I grit
I'm just another gat man / caught up in the mix
Tryin' to take your dollar /and your 15 cents (I grind wit a pistol) (4)

I stay rid of you lames / (yaw gay)
and play Video games / (all day)
what Kansas City,/ MO brangs Is gritty
slow gain we ditty / bop wit really no change (yaw pay) (8)

And people holla / how ya do dat there
Why your pants hangin' low / and why you grew dat hair
Lightin' a bleezle with my people / Ridin' a regal
always in trouble wit coppers / cause we drivin' illegal (12)

And I ain't never giving / them lee way
To hem me nay / the judicial assembly's Gay (hay)
I come out at night / cause I sleep all day
Tryin' to get with Def Jam. / Loud or MCA (16)

Thats a normal 16 bar verse and a 8 bar chorus

also a good writer can control his tempo simply by wordin ish correctly in a bar
notice how in these four bars tech nine gradually gets faster by extending his bar each time

Tar bender / I need a drother nink,
release Caribou Lou/ in a party it’s utter kink,
insane mani,/ keep em comin’ then I’ll remain zany
cause sadatay baby / I’m tryin’ ta make you my main damey (4bars)
