Camtasia Studio 4 is good wit it take a some memory though i cant really record my beats coz the beat itself take up alot of CPU usage and then the recorder. If u have a good CPU then it will work fine. (AMD 4200 and above for AMD's i dont know intel to much).

i think most or all screen recorders tatkes up a lot of virtual memory

No its not really the RAM its the CPU. i have 2gs or ram and it still bugs me.

RAM is more for games, and the amount of applications u run at the same time and the CPU gets the power to run these u need a good CPU+RAM for music production.
