^ I understand what you're gettin' at broken keyz.

In the "Introduce yourself section" you shortly introduce yourself to the family.. You post a cropped version of an essay which serves as an 'introduction'. A few people can reply in which they welcome you to the site. We (as in the (somewhat) seasoned users cannot go in there all together and make new threads in which we tell how great that party last weekend was feel me? Would be too messy..

What Broken Keys wants with this topic is that everybody can come in here and tell something they either experienced of felt if it has something to do with music or not. Everybody just lets everybody peek into their lives, and you can come back at any time and post something new all in the same topic.

* That's what you were gettin' at or not Keys..? *

So please continue peepz =D

i'm 18 years old right now, i live in Leeuwarden, hollands city wich has 3 of the top 10 most poor and criminal neighbourhoods in holland (number 1, 3 and 7)
i live in one of the more ''normal'' parts tho, but its a really small city
my childhood was pretty random, mom and dad alwasy fighting, regular psychiatrist visits, but i guess everyone has some drama in their childhood.
spent about 4 years (from my 13th to my 17th) doing absolutely nothing, staying out till late, smokin weed everyday, drinkin alcohol, not going to school, doing dumb small time criminal stuff with people who i thaught were good friends and rolemodels
and about a year ago i discovered fruity loops trough a friend of mine.. and right now i practically do nothing else but go to work fulltime, come home, then make beats fulltime.
next week i'm beginning a small schale(but professional none the less) sound design education near my neighbourhood
i've played violin, piano, and drums as a kid, but i didnt do any of those for a long period, planning to take up piano, guitar, and violin lessons next month
so, yeah, thats basically it xD

ps nice thread ^^

i was born in argentina but moved to england at 13 cos my mum married an english man. It was pretty difficult adapting to a new culture, and leaving my friends and family behind, but eventually england became a home to me, and now I've just graduated from university doing politics & philosophy. I've loved hip-hop since my second years here. Started with Ja Rule, Fat Joe, DMX, Jay-Z (The Blueprint was the first hip-hop album I bought), and slowly but surely developed a taste for old skool and alternative hip-hop. I fell in love with hip-hop gigs, which have given me some of the best memories of my life, and i started to save or them. I've seen Chali 2na from J5, The Roots, De La Soul, Dizzee Rascal, Will Smith, Jay-Z, Mos Def and a few others, and gigs really turned hip-hop into more than just music for me. I started to undersand why people talk about it as a culture. There's something infectious about hip-hop gigs. Usually everyone gets along. I've been to a couple of rock concerts, and everyone is moshing chucking beers on others people, and there isn't an amicable groups feeling.
I got so into hip-hop, I always had "melodies" or "beats"in my head, but I have no musical training at all. I don't play any instruments, and I don't know any music theory (apart from scales), so I had no idea of how to make the music that I imagined in my head.. I once tried EJay cos a friend had it, and I loved it so much that I bought it as soon I got my computer in University. Then I heard one of my mates beats, and it was so insane, I asked him what he used to make it. He told me it was a program called Fruity Loops, and that 9th wonder used it to make his beats. My mate had no musical training either, but his beats were dope, so eventually I decided to get it! My first beats were crap, but i thought they were incredible! lol. I got frustrated with it cos I couldn't get my beats to sound as good as they did in my head (I didn't even know what mixing was), so I gave up.Then I saw NFX's videos on Youtube, and thanks to him I've turned a frustrated hobby into a full-time passion. I feel like a poet who didn't know how to write. NFX taught me to write, and now I can express my ideas. Making beats is one of the most liberating feeling I've had, and I'm really thankful to NFX for doing this for us.
Now I'm in Spain for a year, teaching 1 to 3 year olds to speak English, and who knows what's happening after that. I love argentina, and I love england, but neither place completes me because I'm always a bit different wherever I go. I'm a bit of everything, which is both a gift and a curse, because you fee like you don't belong anywhere completely.
Like Lucas, I'm also an atheist. I was raised a catholic, but I always had my doubts. Then I studied Theology to try to reaffirm my faith, but studying religion more closely and thinking about it critically led me to become an atheist, and that has also been very liberating. Probably the most liberating change in my whole life. I now try to live life as if it's the only one you get, and I'm getting a lot more out of it. I recently became a vegetarian, but I love and miss meat and I don't like many vegetables! lol. I love football, tennis, smoking shisha with friends, and even tho I like socialisinig, I'm also quite a private person. I love walks, but I'm actually pretty lazy! Bad combination! But yestreday I went for a walk in the mountains of madrid for about 4 and 1/2 hours. Havin lived in London or 8 and 1/2 years, yesterday's walk and the clean mountain air gave gave me a really good feeling!
My next aim is to learn how to DJ. After that, I'd like to hook up with an MC and try my luck, but then again, wouldn't we all! I don't think this will ever go further than Youtube for me cos I'm not good enough, but the praise I get from the Warbeats fam is enough to make me feel good about my music. I'm happy as long the people that hear my music like it!

Well anyways I'm 15 and from the east coast of Australia just north or brisbane (I wonder how many of you know where that is). Not to much interesting about me, I've lived in the one house all my life, middle class family, go to a good private school (with an extremely good music program).I played and still play a lot of sport; cricket, rugby (union), hockey, tennis, athletics. I love them all. Took up saxophone in year 6, realised I was never going to be any good at it and stopped haveing lessons a few weeks ago. But in between that time I learnt a fair bit from music class at school, have built up a reasonable theory knowledge (and I have enough ridiculously talented musicians as friends to ask if ever I don't know something).

I started writing 'classical' music on the computer in about year 8 but was always curious about electronic music. Then some point in about the middle of last year I saw that remix of this is sparta on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDRAhiBtOrQ) so I pm'd the guy who made it and asked what program he used. He said FL so in about a month I aquired it. Now from there I tried making techno music (with no intention of having lyrics) and while there were good aspects I really had no idea where I was going until at the begginning of the year a friend of mine mentioned DJ Splash. I started listenning and really liked the sound and the way it was done and then I googled "artists similar to DJ Splash and found Stian K who is now my inspiration.

Oh really I didn't know that. Not surprised though they just about all are (mostly from Dj Splash) but what Stian K does the best is keep the songs bright. Most techno feels really heavy but somehow he manages to create cool tracks without doing that. Tey's my goal. Havn't heard Royksopp but I'll listen now and tell you what I think.
