| who says the top producers mix at HIGH volumes? thats just what we see in videos. they don't always use those BIG humongous speakers when mixing. of course there are times when you want to hear the music pumping out the speakers just cause you're vibing to it...but to listen to it consistently and hourly increments? i doubt they do that.
but bottom line is....you have to HEAR music to make it...so take care of the number one tools you use every day to make music...your ears first...then your hands... | | yep yep

| On my Ipod I put a volume limiter that doesn't go above 50% of my max I used to do that too, but I just cant anymore, because I listen to hip-hop more and more. and hip-hop to me has to be loud, or i don't feel it. I just can't listen to J Dilla or Little Brother Quietly. It's gotta bang, and in order to bang it's gotta be loud. Sometimes I overdo it and I don't listen to music at all for a few days, but I think my ears have laready taken a beating! Every now and then I hear a frequency on my left ear. It has two notes: high and low, and it goes between the two at random. Oh well, if I go deaf at least it won't have been in vain - lots of great music will have been the cause! | | | |

| you know that ol saying..
"....ignorance is bliss...."
lol....
its like...when i found out what the symptoms of a heart attack were.... and all of a sudden i had a pain in my chest... then a pain in my left arm.... then i started taking deep breaths because i thought my breath was short...
come to find out i got acid reflux....
sometimes your mind will play tricks on you... and sometimes it will GIVE you what you focus on... just take care of your ears....but that doesn't mean you can't use them for what they are MEANT for...to hear!!!
cars are MEANT to be DRIVEN...but the more you drive them, the more maintenance they require...
just keep that in mind people...

| Posted By K-Ta-Klysm on 23 Jul 2009 01:20 AM Yeah, I know alot of suckers who listen to music only at high volumes, and even more, it's hard music (rock, metal, etc) which IMO is even more damaging... but what can I say? They'll pay off later.
I like keeping my volumes in the mid - not too low, NOT too loud. I hate the stupid suckers who crank up the volume in ishty systems and you only hear the sub woofer and some random strident noises. When I listen to music, I prefer to UNDERSTAND what I'm listening to. well i do listen to loud music at home but thats it dats da only noise my earsgotta go thru what i listne to is g funk sh*t so ypu dats bassy but i dont listne to rock or metal no wonder its damaging you only hear cymbals crashes and electric guitars O.< and 2 off my friends set their phone,ipod,mp3 so loud even when i listne to asong i cant hold it for 6 or 7 seconds and dey listen to it for like 1 hour straight but im taking a break for a while dats for sure you cant take music outta mylife cuz den ill have to go 2 | | | |

| lol yea... loud ass noises are NO GOOD for your ears. The damage is literally irreversible, you canot repair the tiny follicles inside your ear that transfer the vibrations to your brain. If any one of you think you have ear damage, go get a hearing test. There might not be much you can do, unless you have slight damage, then you have to rest your ears for a bit. | | | -=Rate My Beat=-

| Yea, im one of those people who can't listen to music very loud. My ipod hardly ever goes over 50% cause its just too loud for me lmao. Makes my eyes blink an ish when a loud hit comes in XD But yea, don't listen to music too loud, there's really no need...especially if your working on a beat and mixing...you should mix at a reasonable level so you don't over compensate the bass, and under conpensate the hats/crashes I don't think you should be scared though in all honesty. Your ears were made to listen to things all day everyday...they're pretty tough you know...just don't go crazy with em, thats all | | | de Soundclick :)
