I personally like more organic sounding drums. You can get the best acoustic drum kit ever made and it can still sound artifical and computer-ish. Unless you watch and learn from this tutorial.

For a more full or more 'real' sound...would you think panning the hi hats in alternating patterens..like ( 30% left...then 30% right..etc) would be a wise choice? I tried it and i like it...it gives it  a stereo effect...but would you recommend it?

not to throw a wrench in your gears or anything, but speaking of bass drums, you said that when you have 2 close hits you won't have the same power or sound out of them from a human. you do know you can use both feet right?

I would have to say that reason isn't much better than FLStudio.  The learning curve is more steep.  It really depends on the user.  I have heard tracks made with reason and cubase that don't sound as good as stuff written on FLStudio and vice versa.  It's not the tools really, it's what you do with em.

*Updated* I'm using OSX with windows media player 9 installed and I can't see the vid.

It says, " The playlist format is not recognised".

Is there a flash version somewhere for us Mac users??

OK, I found the google version, thanks anyway!!

Nice tutorial, NFX, you really have a great site here. A couple of comments on humanizing that I had hoped you would touch on:

1. NOT quantizing hi hats, ever (or quantizing then randomizing if you want to program and not play)
2. doubling up high hats - play the hi hat pattern again by hand over the original

keep rockin'
