Some excellent info from Zircon on making quick beats.

I AGREE THAT THE CUT/CUT BY FUNCTION IN THE CHANNEL SETTINGS SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN A TUTORIAL. I USE IT BUT DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND IT. ALTHOUGH AFTER WATCHING THIS TUTORIAL IT HELPED A LITTLE TO GRASP THE CONCEPT, BUT SEEMS POINTLESS. CAUSE IF YOU WANT A SOUND TO STOP AT A CERTAIN POINT, WHY NOT JUST TAKE OFF THE NOTE? I WILL BE EXPERIMENTING MORE ON THAT. THANKS!!

Yeah i see what ya mean, but with hi hats for example, even if you had the snap to grid on none, and made the note as small as possible, ya would still get the whole hi hat, if ya know what i mean. but with this "cut" function it looks good, cus sometimes ya want the whole hat, and sometimes ya want the hat to cut out, so using this "cut" function it works great. But still dont know how to use it properly bummer!!

Hey thanks for the tutorial. This is gonna sound really stupid but where can i get those samples like smoker's relight etc for FREE. I dont need thousands of wav files that sound exactly the same, just 10-15 cause the ones that come with FLStudio don't cut it. Maybe theres a less extensive free package thats better than standard FL sounds?

You might have figured it out already, but you use that feature to stop any sounds overlapping,  You might want to use it on something like an 808 bass drum to see what I mean.  I normally just click cut itself because I just find it easier

nice tutorial, i learned alot but about that part when u said "16th" or sumthin when u were doin sumthin to the kicks. U know, when they got really rapid at the end of the pattern, how do I open up that lil menu so that i can mess around with that area as well? like change it like u did i mean.

Just wanted to say nice tutorial, moved a little fast tho and left out some of your steps (I wasnt quite sure how you made that open hat stop at step 5). I was also wondering where I can get more samples and plugins. Ive been using the same generic samples that come with fruity loops and its definitely time to get some new ones!
