Granted we all would like to have our peers LOVE our work wouldn't we? But that's just not going to happen. We have experienced having our trax that we thought were the bomb (KABOOM), liked not so much by others. I know I have personally had a few trax start off with very very high ratings (100, 96, etc) thinking that they would progress in that same approval rating to only have them slip below 70 in the end. So I would like to know what YOUR over all point of just being satisfied with a lack of your track's overall approval rating? What number would you say...

"Alright, that's not working ... for now."

Mine- 76, anything less after a month... I remove it from my Track Manager.

There's a lot of hating and nonsense ppl on pretty much every "hip hop beat-making" site.
If you want your beats to be banging you need to stop taking all those comments so serious.

Cuz there are too many dudes out there who want to "guide" you the wrong way.
Some feedback on your work is great, i mean i love this site for a little feedback once in a while...but you need to trust in your gut feeling rather than a internet site.

At the end of the day..only what YOU think counts.

I totally agree with you. I do and always have trusted and worked out trax for MY taste BUT truly I do want my PEERS (No so much the public) to apprciate my work as well.; We fool ourselves when we say that we don;t care what people think.. That is one of the biggest forms of denial that people endure. Just look at your clothes, your shoes, your lingo... all a case in point of wanting to be acceptable. I mean... you may like whering long sleeve white shirts with ruffles and butterflies on them, bell bottom jeans ripped in the ass pocket, and very pointy elf shoes... but I bet that you won't! We want to fit in and our preferences are stimulated by what others think.

I too am a victim of trying to fit in... even though I love all my trax... some of them just will NOT make the cut!

i love the answer ak gave when some people here see your trak on the charts they become over critical even the veteran producers, it is a natrual instinct to compare ones work to anothers and they feel as tho theirs is better and they will subliminally in their mind downrate your trak for minor ish like hats or reverb mayb the way the drums sound or your synths. it is all envy. TO ME JUST KEEP LOVING WHAT YOU DO, find people that are more serious about this craft to exploit your traks to. i have never been on the charts mayb once for sounds, but i would love to hit the charts in other areas in order for me to "chart" how i have grown as a producer of hip hop tracks. I don't take my tracks down because i want to see where i have come from and see how i have grown. I know i may never have a 100% hot track to others but i won't let them stop me from trying to get there!

You know... I feel that there are tons and tons of combinations when it comes to music trax. Sure REVERB can be utilized one way OR... it could be utilized a different way. Personally ITS ALL A MATER OF PREFERENCE AND OPINION when we boil it down. There really is not overall RIGHT WAY or WRONG WAY of comnposing music and to MICRO MANAGE someone is bogus truly. That's why I like the different catagories for rating... because they are technical and not until the last does it get personal. But even still they all are subject to PREFERENCE where as some like drums HOT in the mix others like them laid back. I had one track with allot of reverb on the drums which made them sound LIVE but people didn;t like that... it's all about preference truly.

I wouldn't be so quick as to assume everyone on this site to be a peer. The majority of beats on this site are made by people who like to think of themselves as "producers" even though they don't have much to show for it. Harsh but true. That means that most of the people who will rate your beats haven't really got a clue about beatmaking, and it's funny to see them be so quick to provide criticism to your tracks when theirs would only get played in Guantanamo Bay as a form of torture. (Lol that's too harsh)

Remember what Guru said in "You Know My Steez" - "It's often easier for one to give advise than it is for a person to run one's own life/That's why I can't get caught up in all the hype/I keep my soul tight and let these rhymes take flight"

In other words, don't take what your so-called "peers" say so seriously, and do your own thing. When you do get some useful advise though, you'll realise that it can help you and you'll naturally grow from it

Lol at Joaquin's statements which are so so true. me myself i just go by what i hear or don't hear it is really easy, when i first started i used to compare his to mine theirs to mine and it was a wrong way to judge ones' work as i had to ask myself what if it was me criticizing me, would i want to hear such wayward comments... No, so i calmed it down and now i do my thing and go by ear.

^ ^ Yeah... i agree to an extent BUT if we totally didn't carte what people thought we wouldnt ever display our material so to be real... we all want APPROVAL in some form. That's just human nature. I am starting a new genre' in music. I want to see how many people will gravitate to it. It's not following anyone and its certainly not the norm. We'll see how people feel about my DOING MY OWN THING!!! LOL!

LMAO @ lab.. Good call hahahaha XD..

Anyways about the whole rating thing.. It's all coming down to distinguiishin' *feed* (which will help your grow) from hate (which will steer you in the wrong direction).

Like Vader said we want approval.. We don't have to lie about that ish.. You produce for *yourself* yes that's true, but it's worthless if no-ones else will like what you do.. You'll be bangin' your tracks in your petty attic for the rest of your life.. And 'don't say it ain't true..

If we put up a topic where everybody can tell their wildest dreams once they blow up, you'll see everybody in there too. So we *do* wanna make a living with what we do and in order to so. The masses need to enjoy what we produce (offcourse in combination what the artist does as well)..

I say it's finding a balance between what you want and what the crowd wants.. That works.. Just don't lose your integrity...

The feedback system is there just for that, to get feedback. And that you will get. It is up to you then to weed it out. Some of it is there jsut because the persen who answered needed to find something to type so they could upload their own beat, some of it is there because you climbed too high on the crarts (some people really do take the charts too seriously). But there is also the feedback that is sincere and comes from a source that knows what they are talking about. Today, information is all around us and we are being bombarded with it, it is up to the receiver to pick out the usefull bits and use them to his/her advantage.

The saying "Not everything shown on TV is true", applies to alot of other situations in our lifes aswell. Always have a open mind for new ideas, be watchufull for deceit and have the power to believe in yourself.

to me another way for a satisfactory rating would be to point out to me what my track is missing or what is outta place in the trak and then let the numbers as far as the rating system reflect these inconsistencies. this is how i do my rate work so i expect the same i mean really it is SIMPLE MATHEMATICS. Some folk are just here to get their shine on and have Diddy syndrome, me me me and step on everyone else. but hey nothing is perfect right.

I believe the best satisfaction comes from burning a cd with your beats on it, pickin up an artist... and have him destroy one of your tracks in a freestyle while on your way back to the studio... all the while bobbing your heads like headbangers
