Iv'e only been makin beats for about 2 and a half years now so im still a novice...but some of the beats I hear on this site are coo and some arent, some are repetitive loops and some have too much stuff goin on.  Ive noticed a few looped beats that were tight, that didnt get no love, and in the critiques people said that the beats were repetitive.

I just wanted to know if repetitive beats are a bad thing on this site...Cuz off the top of my head I could name some songs with repetitive beats, like:  beatnuts - off the books and watch out now... Nas - book of rhymes, lifes a bitch, Memory lane, Phone tap...50 cent - hustlers ambition, Gangstar - Battle, Oh and I forgot...beatnuts - no escapin this.  Oh and practically any one of  EPMD's tracks, and the legendary KRS ONE - The bridge is over.

The beats in thoes songs are basically repetitive, BUT!!!....BUT!!!... they're all tight.

So is a repetitive beat on this site only good if an MC is on it??

Please Please Please sumbody get back at me.

peace.

Just more songs to add to the repetitive beats list

WuTang - Cream, Cream 2 (wutan forever), Its yours, impossible, HELLS WIND STAFFF,
Protect Ya Neck (The junp off on the W LP).

Pharaohe MONCH - Simon says( Get the funk up)  SUPA Track.

Mobb Deep - Silent storm,  eye for an eye.

Jay Z - Plitics as usual, D'Evils (its track 6 on reasonable doubt), AINT NO NIGGA...and                  this song played a roll in puttin him on the map in like 96 i think.

I've thought the same thing a couple of times.  The thing is that on this site a lot of the stuff is battling, and so when the beat becomes the focal point of a listener, the producer has to do more variations etc. to keep the listener interested.  Mr. Me too is a great song and it barely has three different notes.  I think you make an interesting point, but in battles you've got to keep your beat consistently interesting to win, so yeah...more complex and varied beats are probably looked upon favorably.

I would agree with you on that point, because yeah a beat battle you would want a lil more stuff goin on. But its also in the beat show where people are showing off their beats and ppl make the 'its repetitive' statement, which brings us back to the point of this topic.. .whats the difference?

I guess it can be hard to listen to a beat without vocals and evaluate it as if it did have vocals on it.

the only flaw that most of us producers is we listen to beats as producers!

if u listen as a fan of music and not as a copetitor or a critic you'll be able to enjoy the music.who really cares if a beat has abunch of different progressions or breaks or variations in it as long as its makin your neck hurt then whats the problem?
i noticed a long time ago its a lot of younger dudes on here and i understand that they really dont understand the history of hip hop and how it evolved.so im sayin if everybody listened to things open mindely thing will sound completely different to them.my thing is one mans trash is another mans treasure!
i dont upload beats on here and i dont really critique manybeacuase of the byass that i've seen by other people on here(thats not cool at all) we are supposed to help each other not destroy ones ego( a lot of hatin goes on too)
to everyone who feels me keep doin what ur doin and f ck the critics remember what u think sounds good sounds good who cares what they say about you

p.s. r.i.p. james brown
we all owe him a great deal of thanks for the music he gave the world

i like simple beats more then crazzy synth out beats maybe ever 4 or 8 have a break down could be as simple as reversing the sample or a little drum hop. Transitions are key.

shots out to bigpuncho, thats real talk.my cousin told me the same thing.i do think that us producers look at a beat too much from a producers standpoint,in which we should, but we should also look at it from a rappers point of view, or whoever else would be interested in that sort of music.hiphop wasn't really known for tha beats,it was the djs talent and the lyrics that went with the song.all the songs that dude mensioned before are all hot because there is art in that.
these days producers think that since one person made a beat that was packed with sounds it means that they should follow that pattern, but things that are in now will be old tomorrow.i know you heard the term that a beat was outdoing the person whos rapping or singing over it....so really,is that a good beat?

i think i understand the art of producing very well to be 16,i grew up around older music by my parents playing them in the house, and i also played the drums since i was 5.

much respect to dude who started this forum because alot of dudes dont pay attention to the art that was supposed to be in producing.

Hip Hop has become real constrained. The creative juices and creative flows have been diminished.

to be honest with you...i can't think of too many hip hop songs that AREN'T repetitive....it's a loop of some kind...whether its 4, 8 or 16 bars...and mainly a change up for a bridge and the hook...

the thing about beat battling is, as you all have said, is keeping the interest of the listeners...so you have to switch things up....however...someone may feel the concept of a beat that may not win a beat battle more than one that will win a beat battle....in the music industry...the beat is made to support the vocalist...not the other way around....

Lil Buddy and Big Puncho real sh*t man. I posted a beat and somebody told me that it was too repetive, but almost all beats are repetive. If you listen they just mute some sounds at certain parts and bring others in in other parts. Basically looped.
I understand that the envy is part of the game but you and I we are not the same
