26 Aug 2009 04:12 AMBlack Eyed Peas Set a Record....Really?
So I heard black eyed peas set a 20 week billboard record for that new song Boom Boom Pow or whatever its called.

Does anyone else hear this beat and think they could make it in 2 minutes?

For anyone who hasn't heard it, it's just an 808 kick and not much else lol.

Just really suprising for me that this set a record...Is this suprising to anyone else?

Where's the music at?

its not about the "simple music" you are talking about one of the greatest hip hop groups around, with a super producer like will i am , im not suprised at all, and as for me, personal opinion, i think the track is dope,

and this is just another testament to, dont over complicate your music, there are still artist that may ahve to put vocals on it, dont want them to be drowned out by music?........

Will i am is a great producer, one of my favorites. Which makes this song even more of a let down. They are a pop group, but I don't want to get into that because its just another genre debate.

I was just shocked that that song could set a record, think about all the hot songs you have heard in your lifetime...does this song really measure up?

Will.i.am is a genius...and that Boom Pow track is dope.

It's not about how easy you can recreate that beat.
It's a dope ass beat cuz it is so simple but still really catchy. Things like that make a record so special.

It's not about how difficult the beat is...it's about the catchiness of the song.

well LIB they werent "pop" until that chick joined, so i still consider them hip hop, like they were before the lovely lady lumps!!! all in all its difference in opinion, listen to alot of older 90s rap music that was popluar, its all simple beats, or loops ... it just happend to be catchy

Thats the majority of what I listen to. I just see a difference, those beats are made on SP1200s and archaic drum machines.

Yeah in the 90's the drum loops were boom bap simple, the samples might have been looped like crazy- but the lyrics in the songs meant something. It was poetry. The first hip hop songs were made in basements....these Black eyed peas dudes have a million dollar studio and are trained musicians.

boom boom pow....is gated synth + 808....but like everybody else said...its catchy,
and you must look from a perspective of a listener...not producer....couse normal listener cant recognize thats gated synth and stuff like that

I didn't like Boom Boom Pow that much. Maybe it's just me, but it felt more like a techno track than hip-hop, but then again they are more of a pop group. I liked I Got a Feeling, though, but I wish they would do more stuff like they're old tracks. Call me a hip-hop conservative, but I think they were best before Fergie came it (I'd still hit that in a heartbeat though )

A teacher I had a few years ago said she went to a furgee concert and she like pissed herself on stage or something.

""So hammered, in fact, that Fergie decided to piss RIGHT ON THE STAGE. No joke. According to radio reports, she moved over out of the spotlight at some point in their set, and just let it go. Without taking her pants off, either."

Be the judge ...

You're supposed to take your pants off before you piss yourself in front of thousands of people?

Well part of this success can be contributed to the amount of airplay. If you listen to just about anything enough you can start to like it and with the pop audience being the most susseptable group of all once you've got something half catchy and you are in it doesn't get out. Though personally not my favourite couple of songs ever.
