^ LoL respect err'bodys taste for making music... If you have trouble appreciating crunk listen to pompeys beat in the beatdown... (still think it's the best beat in the whole beatdown)..

I don't have anything against crunk, yet I try to make my beats as good and authentic as possible, as I like that sound better... been sampling a lot more than usual over these last couple of months. I don't think I have ever used a synth. I'm a sucker for that fat vinyl/analog sound too, relaxed vibes and oldschool drums. Striving to be better and make my own sound... pretty much I'm inspired by mostly DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Dilla, Nujabes and Kno - though I am nowhere near a quarter as nice as anyone of them.

Here's some examples:

I feel you man, it's like 99% of the internet's beat makers try to do dirty south, crunk, pop and mainstream beats. Even I do that from time to time, but I like making old school beats, an beats like in the 90s.

Some examples

-=Rate My Beat=-
-=Rate My Beat=-
-=Rate My Beat=- (I think this one is pretty old school-ish)
-=Rate My Beat=- (This is pretty underground IMO)

thanks, I'm glad there are some old school/classic hip-hop heads around here... I'm tired of all these sounding-the-same-synth-beats with no character to them.

trust me, way more people sample than you think. i just find that those into the synthy stuff tend to promote themselves more, whereas those into sampled stuff just know every1 they wanna know, if you follow me.

Crunk or "commercial" beats are just easier to do...that's a fact.

First of all...not every beat-maker has the skill to flip a sample and make something totally new out of it that actually sounds good.
You see ppl like Lil John adding 808's and a stupid whistle sound to a pattern and danggg...the beat is done. It's obvious why everyone is following that trend...cuz everybody could make such a beat if its a catchy melody.

I don't blame ppl who make "commercial" ish with all the crunk and 808's...i'm cool with other music taste...i would consider most of my stuff "newschool".

But if everyone is following the newschool ish, the real underground hip hop will go down...

And that means ppl like DJ Premier, RZA, Pete Rock and many other cats would go down...or atleast their music. And those legends made the biggest hip hop hits ever...

^ thats not a fact at all.

sure theres lots of simple c major lil jon vocal crunk whistle 808 kickin snare roll having crunk out there
but theres also alot of stuff thats actually composed and mixed nicely
same goes for sampling.

its not about what you do, its about how you do it.
