| I thought we could talk about music, also cos if you guys say "i like so-and-so", then someone else might have some other artist to suggest checking out on that basis. usically speaking, I'm desperately alone in my area (exeter, england). No one I know here is into hip-hop. Not surprising tho, will all the ish you hear in clubs nowadays. So let me tell you what I hate first. I hate it T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Florida, Chamillionaire, That group that sings "short got low, low, low, low..." and just about any new so called "hip-hop" artists that get radio play. I love A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jurassic 5, Pete Rock & CL Smoth, KMD, Grand Puba, MF Doom, The Pharcyde, early Outkast, etc. Also, I recenty heard Black Eyed Peas first ablum (Behind the Front), and to my surprise it's amazing. That's before fergie, and you can hear a tribe called quest influence there. Also, if you like music that isn't hip-hop, feel free to talk about that. I love Pink Floyd for example, and lots of other non-hip hop artists, but I'll stop rambling now | | | |

| I think you'd love Knaan, joaquin. Check him out I got a thread up in this forum section.
As for me lately Ive been listening to the new Eminem album, Knaan's new one and Kid Cudi's mixtape. Though I love listening to a Timbo produced track or any other great producer's work. I use to listen to some rock like Pink Floyd, Silversun Pickups, Smashing Pumpkins...but not so much anymore.

| fort minor bro, if your not aware of them, its the rapper from linkin park, mike shinoda, he has his own hip hop group that are amazing the beats are like pure hiphop in its truest form, not this money rap ish, and theres alot of lyrical game thrown over the top theyre very underated for what they bring, i honestly thought at the time that they were a breath of fresh air for hiphop | | | The Edge - There's no honest way to explain. Because the only people who know where it is, are the one's who have gone over. Hunter S. Thompson "Dr Gonzo". | |

| Cool, I'll be sure to check out Knaan and Fort Minor. Also, I have to admit a guilty pleasure - every now and then I put on some Lil Jon and I funkin love it! And I hate crunk (usually) Also, does anyone think that J Dilla is overrated? Not to say he wasn't amazing - he was. But kids nowadays talk like he was the best producer ever, and I can think of many that top him both in ability and quality. Prince Paul for one. I mean, his stuff for other people, like Busta, The Roots, Common, etc, clasifies as some of the finest hip-hop, but if you listen to his solo stuff it's not consistent.Ruff Draft, Donuts, etc are all good in places, bt for the most part are pretty average, sometimes even annoying (imo). What do you guys think? | | | |

| Btw, if you like underground hip-hop, check out this vid. The lyrics are some of the most poetic and innovative I've ever heard. The last guy (Jehst) kills the verse, and the track uses a nice piano sample. Let me know what you think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uyl3xGL0Rg | | | |

| ^^ j dilla overrated? shame on you lol im all for personal opinions but i definitly cant agree with you he's underrated in my opinion, sure alot of kids think he's a hip hop god now that he died, but thats just cause of the hype that comes with an artist dying in general public he's pretty unknown, exept for some people who know him from tupac's Do For Love. what it basically is with dilla is that his beats are really strange, they sound really amateuristic and genius at the same time imo under industry standards jays beats wouldnt get anywhere, but i bet you 10 G's that nobody out there can copy his style no matter how hard they'd try
listen to tracks like ''Wont do'' ''Geek down'' ''The Official'' ''The Heist'' and ask yourself if you coulda thaught of flipping those samples that way
Anyway, im not trying to attack u or anything, its just how i feel about it.. and you should also definitly check out Foreign Exchange(my latest greatest inspiration), Little Brother(sick sick) and Masta Ace(rap veteran), and ofcourse (in case ya aint know) DJ Premiers work. | | | Where were you in physics?

| haha, i'm listening to the minstrel show as I speak (or, as I type... ). I knew my thots on dilla would cause a stir. It's cool. Like i said, the dude was amazing. But the way I judge excellence is consistency... so to me, someone who drops some great stuff and some so so stuff can't be the GOAT, and that' all I mean when I say he's overrated - he simply isn't the GOAT, like so many people think he is. But i agree with you that what he does with his samples is mad creative, tho I still think that some of his solo beats stuff sounds half-assed tho - like he had so may beats and ideas that he didn't spend enough time on all of them. Dude, anyone who doesn't know primo can't claim to know hip hop (come on,i still listen to jungle brothers). Course i no primo! I've only listend Masta Ace's long hot summer, which was average, but i presume his old skool stuff will probably blow me away. Anyone listened to shades of blue by madlib? I strongly recommend it. Also, has anyone listened to Doom's Born Again? I haven't, and was wondering what people's thots on it are? Does it live up to its predecessors? -=Rate My Beat=- | | | |

| My playlist is full of underground and oldschool ish and every hip hop group has like a different beat mood or feel.
Like if a want a sad song i listen to beats from Necro.
If i want some hard lyrics and battle type beats i listen to Non Phixion.
If i want some feel good tracks i listen to beats from souls of mischief, common, talib, Masta Ace and so on.
If i want some deep lyrics with nice sampled beats i listen to Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Tech, AOTP, Living Legends, Zion I and so on.
If i want modern stuff i listen to Cunninlynguists.
If i want sick trip hop beat i listen to DJ Krush or RJD2
If i want some melodic ish which sounds totally different i listen to K-os, Gym Class Heroes or Deltron 3030.
If i want some oldschool i listen to Big Pun, Norega, Krs One, Big L or NWA.
If i want some banging gangster beats i listen to Bone thugs n harmony or saigon.
and so on and so on.
There are ppl like RJD2 or groups like Cunninlynguists, JMT, or Living Legends who impressed me the most with their beats but i guess everyone thinks different about hip hop. You can't really judge someone who likes Soulja boy cuz everyone has a different taste.
For me, i always said to myself...more different types of hip hop artists in your playlist means more inspiration for your own beats.

I have to much to even mention, bu just off the top of my head, Jamioquai's debut is banging, as is Santana's. I listen to Fela Kuti,Massive Attack, Red Hot Chili's early stuff (Blood Sugar Sex Magik), Mr Scruff, Pink Floyd just to name a few. I love Blues and Funk too. I haven't heard back from anyone about Doom's Born Again album. Has anyone heard it? What are your thoughts on it? -=Rate My Beat=-

| Wussup, everybody! Hi, Joaquin. Glad to become part of the family here on Warbeats, it's comfortable here. I have things to say, but, please, don't judge my english harsh, i'm russian, i'm typin' from Russia, Moscow (You're welcome), and this is my first post and i ain't too much internet being. So, end of official blab. Cool, please. Joaquin, i feel you(no h.) on your first post and i like the same music, but what caught my attention was - you said that you hate: T-Pain, Lil' Wayne and Chamillionaire. So I think the hate is not the point. (I dont kno about T-Pain) but Cham & Wayne has rappin skills, and they are not pretendin' that they're A Tribe Called Quest or Wu, ok? I think it's Hip-Hop, still, and you can't front on their originality and you can't front on them only because they are in charts now(I'm not trying to consider you "hater", just thinking out loud, really).

| And lines like:
"...If i want some oldschool i listen to Big Pun, Norega, Krs One, Big L or NWA." (from AK beatz)
just seems too hilarious for me.

| Hey Kusakin, good to hear from you man! Your engilsh is fine dude. Don't worry, it's my 2nd language too, I'm argentinian. I know chamillionaire's got skills on the mic, but I just have no time for the whole "the see me ridin, they hatin, patrollin they tryina catch me ridin dirty", cos to me it's just cliche. If I'm honest tho, all it is is that i'm hooked on the old skool sound - that's why i love your beats man. So I'm not sayin they're crap, I just don't like them. But yeah, the word hate is over dramatic. Lol. I love some new school stuff tho. Kanye West goes without saying (apart from his last two albums). If you like Chamillionare, you might like Sway (british rapper). Check out his debut, "This is my Demo". It's pretty nice. Also, some top notch UK artsts are Mytro (check out hi album Diggi Down Unda), and Ty (check out Upwards). He composes all his beats, but they're absolutely incredible! So what are your favorurite artists? | | | |

| Second is: I really dig your opinion about J-Dilla (R.I.P.). For me (at least 20-year vet in Hip-Hop) he was always be MYSTERY after i started listened about his "greateness"! First time i heard about him was (ab. 2001-2002) and it was Slum Village, for me it was just B-grade ATCQ and i foregot about them. And then he is legend now? Why? Not Showbiz? Not K-Def? Not Marley? Not Easy Moe Bee? Yeah he is GREAT at his originality, but i never dug him, and whole hysteria about his greatness is off for me, at least. Technicks? - I heard better. But i love him.(God bless the dead. J.D. - We never forget You! One of The Greatest!) | | | |
