to be honest...i really don't like where r&b and hip-hop are headed....both music-wise and lyric-wise...music just doesn't go deep anymore, there's no emotion...there's just...horniness and greed LOL...i was just wondering, since some of you kids are growing up with this..do you really like it? is there anyone else who's as disappointed as i am?

i know where your coming from
but... there is definately still good music coming out, and music with emotion in it

but i dont think the more mainstream things that are coming out are necessarily bad. i didnt really like RnB (what i call RnB, neyo, chris brown, dream etc), but i got a few neyo albums, got the new dream album and like them both. they might not have the emotion of say a d'angelo or alicia keys, but you have d'angelo and alica keys for that. you have usher and dream for the club RnB stuff

i do feel you on the lack of emotion/deepness in alot of music, especially new music though. last new rapper who really goes deep imo is lupe. cant think of any1 more recent who goes like that (thought im sure there is)

mhhhhm, u jus gotta look for it

and hip hop and R&B has become such a popular genre . . that u gotta realise that R&B appeals to all audience nowadays, and being that the general population just want to hear somthing that makes em dance with no deep feeling . . . . we gotta accept that on TV and radio aint wer us Hip Hop heads are gunna find the music we wanna hear, but thank god for the internet were we can buy CD's of J5, Wu-Tang, and all the classics

Our deep ass REAL hip hop music is like the hip hop X-Files ''The raw ish is out there''

you wont believe how many times i try to convert people into listening to meaningful music
but people nowadays dont want to hear that
the positions in the charts are actually controlled by 13 year olds right now
if you got a song, and your 10 year old daughter/nease(/mother?!) can sing it, you know its a hit

theres still alot of good music being made, it just doesnt reach the spotlight
all i can say is, support the artists that still do make music with meaning and passion
i just bought 5 copies of the latest Foreign Exchange album to support em

its funked up but mainstream music will start sounding more and more like ''chicken noodle soup'' and ''superman OHHH''

Where were you in physics?

i feel you on this one.

many "artists" these days are more like industry slaves. saying whatever sells so there pockets swell.

But real music always comes in waves. stayin true to the streets. With some meaning to tell.

I'm not feeling this "Dance Rap" trend so much, it was ok at first, but its been going on for too long. At least some of the good artists keep dropping hits. I hear Method man and Redman's Blackout 2 is good ish.

Hip Hop is dead and what happens when someone dies? They get buried "underground" ya feel me? But I still enjoy some mainstream stuff. And as far as rap goes I see alot of promising up and coming rappers. I dont think hip hop will every return to that "golden age" Cause like Robert Frost said.... "Nothing gold can stay".

but this is also true.

music these days are commercial in my opinion.seems that labels wants to sell sell sell every time.and real music is not appreciated.everyone wants to hear club songs.everyone wants to hear the commercial stuff.i guess thats how it is these days.music should change.music should be appreciated.im getting tired of hearing cheap beats like soulja boy.not to disrespect but their music is so low.
Future sounds in progress.

Well if you ask me, y'all trippin'. Everything of what we say is 'garbage' still has an audience, which means that there are still people listening and are 'enjoying' the music.
Who are we to say "HipHop is dead" or "mainstream stuff isn't real music", just because the game changed. There will always be people that will have difficulty accepting change or won't accept it all...
On the other hand it's not always the artists fault that he/she makes (some) garbage tracks. The labels have MAJOR influence on what comes on an album or not. The labels think about profit, cuzz it's business period, and that is more than logical.. and if there music wasn't music they wouldn't have an audience and they wouldn't sell..

Every ish has it's own audience, and apparantly alot of you don't like the mainstream stuff.. That is cool, but the mainstream stuff is music too =P.. I do listen to mainstream stuff and the underground stuff too and I can appreciate both..

Now don't attack me all at once after this one.. LoL XD..

looks like i'm the only one attacking you after all..lol

j/k.

you're right..the labels sell what is profitable, so thats what they put out in the mainstream...
and everything has it's own audience.

but the labels aren't the ones controlling stuff..its really the AUDIENCE.

if WE stop buying and buying into half of the stupidity they try to market, do you think they would sell it any more?

me personally, i blame it on the artists...and i'm not talking about the ones who are coming out with this craziness..i'm talking about the ones who always want that head noddin, sittin in my room smoking type production. if you step out your box and get on some of these crunk type tracks, put your FIRE lyrics on them and come up with a catchy hook, then YOU'RE the one selling..AND quality music is selling at the same time...

production makes a humongous difference...and a lot of these artists have to step outside of their comfort zone to get it in like they need to and REALLY get the message to the people...
if thats why they are making music in the first place...

but every type of music does have its own audience...just so happens that the audience of stupidity and simplicity is larger than that of meaningful music nowadays...
but how many of us really want to be intellectual all the time? lol

I miss the heydays and golden era of hip hop ,when people did it for the love of the art, but on the other hand , nigg@s gotta live. MY kids can't eat respect and street cred-they eat food. Sometimes you gotta compromise to get a balance of good music and what will sell.

dayum right they can't eat respect and street cred...so what do you do? you make what the people want.

its going to have to start at the top with someone who has a big following now..they are going to have to just switch directions. once that happens, they will be able to bring real HIP HOP music back.
