Okay iv only ever really used 2 audio production tools (reason and FL). I moved away from reason because i didnt like the inablity to expand with vst's. Iv had a very brief go of cubase and straight away found it to be unbalevably confusing compared to my relativly simple FL.
What i was wondering is if I used the same vst's and sample banks I use normally in FL in one of those beefy audio progs like cubase or logic or something like that, would my end product actually sound any better?
Im not asking what prog is better or that im just very curious as to what benifits someone with cubase for eg would have over someone like myself using FL. I mean there so dam complicated with seting up relativly simple things no?
Please tell me your opinions folks.
Bye
If you are asking if FL renders those sounds different than say Cubase for example the answer is yes. The extended answer is that you probably would not notice a difference though. Assuming you used the same velocity and the same notes and the same effects, it should sound very similar, maybe even too similar for the normal human ear to tell.
Also be aware that there are various rendering methods in FL (probably in otehr software as well). In FL you can render at 32 bit, using Sinc 256 for the absolute highest quality output, but it will take FOREVER to finish. I use Sinc 64 myself since it's high quality but not too slow, compareed to Sinc 128 and 256.
Laos when you play sounds in FL Studio in realtime, you are hearing a linear interpolation. It's a lower quality sound so that you can actually use FL without it using too much memory and CPU. Once you render it it should be in a higher quality format.
As for the advantage of Cubase or Reason or whatever, it's all about your personal preference,. Which one feels and sound better to you? Some people don't like Reason because it can't do VSTs, some don't like FL because it has crappy default sounds, some don't like Cubase because it's got a steeper learning curve.
In the end, if you have talent I think you can make good music. I like to say that you if you were a true artist, you would be capable of making a masterpeice in any media (pencil, oils, watercolor, etc) but it;'s all about what you prefer to express yourself with.
