I was just wondering what different kind of hardware is everyone using.  I've just started and wanted to know what keyboards, monitors, beat machines, etc.  everyone was using.  Also I was wondering which you all recommend!

Thanks

Yea if u have money for mpc. If u dont just buy midi keyboard( no matter wich one cos any midi keyboard is good), some softweare and monitors. For start some cheap one. I have behringer monitors and they are very good but cheap. 300$. And later u should buy mixer and thats it.

How much does a MPC 2000 usually go for? Also can I purchase one from my local music store?

i would get it online and at Guitar Center. if you go to guitar center and go into there area where they have recording and keyboard stuff, there should be the whole current line of Akai MPC's as well as other drum machines and production centers. ask one of there salesmen to help you out. ask them abiut the features sound quality and what not. if you can afford MPC get a Roland 606 or just get cheaper drum machine. then some moniters. if you do live recording youll proably need software and a mixer or usb or firewire interface that is connectable to you computer. and a mic of corse. just go to musiciansfriend.com and go to recording section and look at the stuff. if you want just beat machine go to the midi/key section and look at production station.
