For pure production value, Dre's Chronic 2001 can't be beat. I use that as a refernce before I do my own mastering. Not that I can get that close, but it's something to aim for.

did u check out any of ur local ones from sacramento and the bay? U need to appease ur local personnel first they da closest. A lotta nortenos in tracy i heard. You should look at both worlds, your world, and the mainstream world. You'll learn fast that the bay area has some great producers and music. So goes for Sacramento, the 2 big cities of northern cali. Suggestions? check out Woodie's Demonz in my Sleep for norteno style, too short, spice 1, celly cel for the bay area vibe and X Raided, Brotha Lynch, Luni Coleone for the sacramento style. N also get DRE sorta music as well. Get some albums from the early half of the 90's as well, that will get you quick up on that california stuff.

yah, mac dre is dead. the only reason people seem to like him is because he died in Oakland.

no he was killd in kansas city n he was buried in oakland and hes from vallejo fyi. Thats not the only reason they like him, he was an innovator as well...dont like the thizz tho. As for the cds, don't worry bout what they rep, just worry bout the music. If thats doesnt suffice, just get some sacramento and bay area cds then. Rasputin has em.

cool, i took nfx's advice and got chronic 2001. its good. when i was paying for it at best buy the cashier said that the chronic was better than chronic 2001. 2001 is great, if the chrinic is better, then that will be my next buy. i finaly have an accual rap album in may collection and im loving it, as long as my parents dont here too much of it, i should be good.

OH man if you are wanting to up your collection there are hundreds of albums that I'm sure many people would put in here or agree.
Note: these are in no particular orders, but must have's

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Nas - Illmatic
Biggie - Ready to Die
Little Brother - The minstrel Show
Dr. Dre - The chronic
Juvenile - 400 degreez
The Roots - Illadeph Halflife
                  Do you want more?!?
                  Things fall apart
                  Organix

Common - BE

This is kind of a random list, but they are all different production styles as well as solid listens.
