| If your talking about a sample of an acoustic kick drum and comparing that to the 808 kick drum it depends on the style of music your doing. In techno (as far as I know, I'm not an expert on the style) the 909 kick sound from a Roland TR-909 drum machine is used quite a bit and so if that is the type of music your trying to create the answer would be neither. The 808 kick drum is used quite a bit in hip hop right now. Depending on the vibe your trying to create an acoustic kick might be just the right thing for the mood your trying to create in any style of music. Your question was a little like asking: "what is better, a Volvo Sedan or a Car?" If you are asking which should you have the answer is all of them, Goldbaby makes some killer 808/909 kits with lots of drums sampled different ways(I like the MPC 60 series), I have all the 808s and I'm gonna start on the 909s soon. NFX does a review of these drums here: Goldbaby Drum Samples ReviewAs far as acoustic samples I kinda like these: Drumwerks Acoustic Drum Samples | | | |

| Erm, it depends on the track. I prefer Kicks for up tempo and 808's for slower beats like southern beats etc etc. But thats just over cuttin a long story short. Theres a bit more to it than that

| Why not have the best of both worlds when you're making a beat and layer an 808 under the kick, As for just listening to music each have their own place in different types of music . Me personally I like to listen to the long decay of the 808 in a track through a set of subs in the car or when it shakes the whole club coming through a beefy soundsystem | | | |

| Layering sampled kicks with 808's is a fairly common practise in the world of hip hop production. Heck I do it pretty often aswell.
Ofcourse it's not as simple as just slapping any 808 sound on any kick, but you can do a lot with it. Don't go for the most obvious large trunk rattling sound. Instead try those shorter low frequency ones that by themselves are not much to look (hear) at. Smack a EQ on the bastards and cut accordingly, you may also want to try a tad of distortion on one to get it really going

| sabo is right... u gotta EQ that ish surgically to make it bang together good. its kind of hard if you dont have a sub... even with studio monitors, you still need a sub to get that perfect EQ balance between the both kicks. lol i got a logitech sub and two krks... and i cant hook em up together. i guess i need to spend 400 on a sub monitor now. | | | -=Rate My Beat=-

| Using a sub is kinda treacherous per say. It's so dependant on you setting up the cross over right, the placement and the surroundings. A pair of good studio headphones (down to 10-15kHz) can help you while checking out the lowend. | | | |

| I agree with making sure all the frequencies have their own space in the mix otherwise it can get a little muddy. Sometimes I end up using the 808 kick as the bassline instead and work round from there, as for when I'm mixing and eq'ing the sound I will sometimes get it roughly finished then burn it to disc then try it different settings whether in my home stereo ,boombox or take it out in the car and drive around then go back to it change the parts that aren't working. | | | |

Yes u can... Do u have a mixer? If not buy one for 50$(tops)... Tape out of the mixer to sub and main output to monitors | | Who's your favourite croatian fellow?! WB battles: W-13 L-2

| ooo... i see what your saying. i doubt i want to use that logitech one tho... i would prefer something thats more flat and professional... but thats really good to know sabo... its something little that everyone should kno... lets see if we can confirm that one... i think ill PM gp studio or something, cuz i think he had bought one and did a review on it... but going off your speculations about setting the cross over and everything right... makes me just wanna get some monitor headphones... | | | -=Rate My Beat=-
