MAKE SURE YOU LET THE ARTIST KNOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE CLEARED THE SAMPLE OR NOT...

cause T E C H N I C A L L Y as i stated before, you can't make money off of someone else's copywritten work....

ok i have a major issue with this and that is. if you sample from a record your just cheating and out for a quick buck. it should be about creativity and not thievery. if you like something you hear then take the time to make it yourself and learn the creative process behind emulating a piece of recorded music this will make you a better producer..and yes it's time consuming but it's better than being a cookie cutter producer

Critical Error..

What you just said there is so wrong on so many levels, I don't even want to get into it.

Learn your hiphop history or at least try to respect it and respect and the creativity involved, thanks.

Rap music came from... guess what... SAMPLES.. That's how the cookie crumbles.

If you don't know, now you know.

never said i did not know the history. but with the rising legality of using unauthorized samples from recorded tracks these days it's best to "play it safe" look at it this way if you had a track that brought you your income to live and supply you with more resources to make what you love would you want someone taking your art and work and making money from it? and lets say some big time producer got wind of you using their art and hard work for your personal profit would you be able to pay them the 10-30k they want? hard to produce from behind bars man. this is not the 80's or 90's when it cost less to nothing to get permission i'm not against remixing as long as it is not for personal profit

thats why when you sample something, you make sure you make it hot...and have a plan for it, if you're planning on making money from it. you'll have some leverage with the record companies then. if its a hot song or track...they'll take a loss on the front in to gain it on the back end (royalties).

and as far as the whole recreating the sample goes..thats interpolating..and you'll still have to get that cleared.

You know that pretty much all big time producer are sampling somehow right?
Half of the stuff timbo made is sampled...and i'm not talking about chops, i'm talking about hole loops that he used. Dr. Dre samples alot too...he just makes you think that it's his own creation..

Sampling is a major part of hip hop. Saying sampling is not creative is like saying dj premier is a bad producer...and that man lives from sampling other tracks and his ish is 10 times better than any self composed beat.
I'm not saying that doing a self composed beat is the wrong way (i try to compose by myself too) but if you would ask any hip hop cat what's his favorite all time beat..it would probably be a sampled one.

sorry if i come across wrong i come from a DnB background and yes it began with sampling beats and bass parts thus the Amen Break but this is no longer the case in this genre. It's actually kinda frowned upon
most DnB producer stress experimentation and sound synthesis...it may not be the majorities flavor of music but this genre has evolved from getting away from sampling others stuff. I'm not against it but to me it just puts the music in a loop that will not grow into new more exciting things. whats hot today can easily be wack tomorrow! so thru experimentation your ahead of the game on a hit or miss basis. i my self try not to use presets or the original one shot samples i tweak em and play with em till i find something that i like....end of line
