I would assume that not all the beat selling sites are scams, but I have a feeling that they all get a commission off of your sales. Its really about how you want to go about your business. I don't have the slightest doubt that a few select people do make a decent living off of beat selling web sites and I know for sure that some people do it off of soundclick. Marketing is a big key in the music industry. You just have to keep pushing your material and put it right in the publics face EVERY day. you cant come out with 1 new joint a month and expect people to keep coming back. Maybe 1 beat a day, every 2 days or 1 a week if you can keep up with it but I know a lot of folks have real jobs and other stuff to do. I usually try to keep it to 1 beat every 2 days or at least 1 a week

As for people ripping and stealing your music, deal with it because its going to happen regardless. You arent the only one getting your stuff jacked. The entire music industry is getting jacked, oh well. Even if you tag your beats, other producers can most likely create what you have created or something similar to that. It really isn't that hard, people do it on warbeats all the time (REMAKES)... tagging is somewhat of a safeguard, but i pretty much stopped doing it unless i was giving the beat away for free. i personally think its annoying to hear a whispering tag throughout the entire beat

if people are serious about their craft, they will put a price on it and pay you for what you do, thats the bottom line

you gotta spend money to make money, and if you cant make the beats yourself, you gotta pay someone to do it (people like us). that goes the same with pretty much any trade in the world

Those beatselling sites don't make money off of your sales. You are confused with an 'affiliated program' which is also a VERY powerfull tool for making money.. You have no idea.. On rocbattle.com for instance, they even offer you to start your own affiliated program for selling your beats. You should all look into this. Affiliated programs are a very "new school" way of making money if you ask me.

Regarding tagging your beats.. do it... Don't know any other way to say this. It's true there are people than might recreate your beats, but trust me the amount of people who are 'actually' willing to do it, is really small.. So better tagg that ish for the stealing faggs that is too lazy to recreate your beats. There is also a certain way of tagging to decrease beatjacking. You hear alot of those story's of faggs cuttin' and pastin' around the taggs of the track in a way that they still have that track. For tagging apply this rule: " Put your tagg on every last bar of a musical "part" within' your track. " (for instance I put my tagg on the last bar of my verse, pre-chorus chorus and sofort). If done correctly there is no way someone can cut and paste that section, cuzz everytime the last bar of such a piece has arrived, your tagg is playing...

What I do at this point. I make the tagged version. Upload it online and put it up as a free download. This way my exposure (the free download part) doesn't has to decrease, but I still have my ish tagged. So I'm still protected in a way. Once I sell a beat, I take off the free download and mark the beat as sold....

End result: U win =D... .

You shouldn't be afraid to get your beats out there. That's the only way people will hear them so promote yourself everywhere and you shouldn't be afraid if someone downloads it.They will record some wack track and that way they will promote you cuz people will ask for the beat.

all and all id rather go indie.and do some placements.if u wanna be serious u gotta put it a 150 % .not jst online marketing.go all out.send ur stuff to ppl.never give up.having talent without contacts is hard.never trust major labels.be at ur own game and go hard on dat.marketing agencies has been emailing me and stuff.and after some time , they jst dissapear.copyright ur music ofcourse.build ur own company and make it legit.right now im producing for a few ppl out there for free.some are indie.and some are signed.my plan is to market my music like that , so that when its on the mainstream.ppl would hear em , and get interested.when u do it for free lotsa ppl would want to take up that chance.and when u have the capability of making hot beats , its much more better.so that when u start charging, they know ur capability.the ppl i work with understood.and right now i am selling.im getting digital royalties from my major artists and in about 6 months time my music is moving up to the mainstream in serbia.the key to all this is that u gotta know what ure doing.lay out a solid plan.and stay focus.its the most important key.
Future sounds in progress.

well...to get back on topic...

im starting to take this thing seriously as well
my catalogs not that big, but i already remodeled my website for future marketing and just in case ppl come across it (its better to leave a good impression)

heres the link:
http://www.joshuacolorado.com

If you look around, you'll see that I have a simple store going on..well heres the link if you're lazy:

http://www.joshuacolorado.com/store.html

Right now, i only have a few beats on there...ive been busy working on the site, but i'm dedicating my time to simply working on the music now..

OK, to cut to the chase, if anyone wants to, as K-Ta-Klysm desires (idk if i spelled it right...its like 3:15 in the morning), put their beats up on my site to sell, we can work things out...i probably wont even ask for commission your prices and everything

By no means does my site get massive traffic, but then again, theres not a million other people trying to sell on my page as well...i have complete control over the site so i can change things around. i didn't really intend to do this, so i built the site focusing on me n my music, but i just remembered this discussion and was like why not?

So lemme know if you're interested...either reply here or e-mail me at joshcoloradomusic@yahoo.com

peace

PS: Very nice beats, good mixes.

I've viewed those beat selling videos from sellmorebeats.com...

Some of them just reenforced some nice marketing methods but I think he missed some key stuff.

The thing that i think that guy does wrong is he assumes that you have thousands of people viewing your beats. Like when he talked about taking emails from people to email them about your new ish..hes talking about emailing 10,000 people and saying if you only get 500 responses its okay..thats still 2 g's.

He does talk about people that sell 5-10 beats a month, and how they can improve..but what about people who don't get the traffic to sell 10 beats a month?

I think that he's assuming that you would have the views to sell beats. The major problem most people have is not enough traffic.. all the packaging in the world won't do any good if only 10 people see it a day.

^ There is no assumption like you describe..

Like the thing with e-mails he also explains how to get a big mailing list like that. It's really easy.. just put a lil'subscribe thingy on your site with an auto responder and your set! You don't have to do anything...

And about the peepz who don't get the traffic.. that's a bit idk.. weird.. if you just sign up to every community page.. pimp up ya page a lil and put up some hot beats your bound to get some traffic.. You just gotta apply everything he says and see for yourself...

Honestly "how much" do you do to push your music in peoples faces?

^ offcourse..

but "hoping" people will see it isn't the right way to formulate it.. You gotta "make sure" peepz will see your ish.. I swear to god.. if ya tunes is catchy you can go along wayy... Even if the track isn't produced or mixed that well (like mine tracks always is)... I just get that standard "Wow that beat is nice" just because they like my melody's.. You can do it..
