Heres a guy that has Beat Making in his DNA. Whether it's beats for Stat Quo, Lil Wayne, Styles P or others, he's got serious game. Click the preview and read on...

Tell us your name and where you are from?

My name is Lyr1kz, I was born in The Bronx but I live in Buffalo, New York's Upper Westside.

How did you get started in producing and when did you start taking it serious?

I started producing when I was 9 years old. I started taking it serious when I was about 12 or 13.

Is having a management team an important part of the equation for you?

Well my manager Cochise has been a big help. He's been managing me and showing me the ropes of the music industry since I was 13. Having some kind of management from someone who is experienced is important and smart, especially when you're young.

Warbeats has members from every corner of the world. Have you worked with any names we might recognize?

I've done production for Stat Quo, Lil Wayne, Styles P, Talib Kweli and Young Sid.

What are some accomplishments that you are most proud of in the production game?

My first production credit with Universal Records when I was about 16 or 17.

What production software/hardware do you use most often?

I use FL studio Rewired with Reason. Sometimes i use Acid Pro.

What are your thoughts on the "Hardware vs. Software" debate?

Hardware is cool, but for me, it takes too long to make a beat using hardware. Time is money.
I like to work fairly quick and software like FL studio makes producing music very simple and fast when you know how to work it.
I can make a beat in 15 minutes and sell it online for $300 (exclusive rights) probably the next day, that has happened before.

Do you sell your beats online, face-to-face or both? And do you have a preference? Why?

I sell beats online at
www.Lyr1kz.com. I also sell beats locally but I make most of my dough online.

Any tips you can give us mixing a beat?

Well first you got to listen to professional mixed down beats.
Listen to the radio or go online. Study the way the beat sounds.Hear if the piano has a lot of low ends or not, or if the strings sound bright or warm. Figure out what they used bright strings instead of warm strings. Most of the time, when your EQing or adding a delay to one of your sounds, it should be because the song has a certain vibe that you want listeners or rappers to hear and feel.
What vibe do you want on your beat? Whats the story of your beat? Sometimes I like to think of the music video for it while making a beat. The process of mixing can get very complicated and deep but all you got to do is listen and know what you want from your beat, thats really all.

Everyone wants their drums to bang. how do you do yours?

Simple, EQ and add the Warbeats Drum Enhancer effect to boost up your kicks.
Make sure your playing your beat on speakers that bang too of course.

In your opinion, what types of things should the new/young producer concentrate on most to develop his/her skills?

Learn music theory. Learn to play keyboard. Learn your program, whether its FL studio, Reason, Logic or Pro Tools.
Search online for videos to help you learn more about your program. Also, learn the sound of your genre.
Learn what sounds is used in R&B most of the time, same with rock, pop and hip hop.
Once your familiar with the most common sounds of your genre then you can change the game.

One of the biggest challenges is promoting one's self. How do you do that and what advice can you give our readers on that?

Studying online marketing. As a creator, you will find ways to market and promote your music all types of ways once you learn what online marketing is.

What other producers (mainstreem or underground) are you feeling the most right now?

Kanye West and always Dr.Dre.

Do you have any upcoming projects you'd like to let us know about?

Well, I'm an artist myself. I have an album im working on right now. I got two artist under my label "Pro Records" that im pushing this year.My newest artist, "Gev" is female singer with a brand new sound, she's 19 with a big voice, heartfelt lyrics and she writes all her songs, she very talented. We're working on her album now. My other artist "Goya" is spanish rapper. He has that straight out of Puerto Rico flow and attitude mixed with a New York hip hop sound. His album is in the works too.
